Beauty, Wellness

“My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to find peace with exactly who and what I am.  To take pride in my thoughts, my appearance, my talents, my flaws, and to stop this incessant worrying that I can’t be loved as I am,” – Anais Nin.

Ah, this quote just speaks to my soul {as cheesy as that may sound} and hopefully yours too.

We are just 3 short days into 2017 so I felt it was time to write this post.  It’s time we all step back and take a closer look at who we see staring back at us in the mirror … once all the makeup is washed off.

And the mirror may show us what we look like, but what it doesn’t show us is who we are.

If you’re anything like me, you’re a make-up girl.  As far back as I can remember, I have always been someone who wore a good amount of it.  Honestly, I love it.  The glam, the “done-up” feeling it gives.

But, over time, I really have come to like the person under it as well.

That being said, have you ever dreaded leaving the house without any make up on?

Are you convinced that going out in public bare-faced might make you unrecognizable?  Even if it’s just for the quick trip up the street to CVS (I mean, there’s like a 38% chance you’ll run into someone you know).

Or, my personal favorite, has anyone ever said to you, “you look different without make-up on.”  To whom you’d like to reply “no shit asshole, I don’t spend all this money at Sephora to look the f-ing same.”  But instead, you smile … internally mortified.

If so, this post is for you.

Like many women, I too dreaded the thought of someone seeing me without a full face of foundation, eyeliner, lip gloss, lash extensions, blush, mascara … the whole kit & caboodle.  I even diligently ensured  back-up products were tossed somewhere in my gigantic tote … just in case.

But really, in case of what?  In case someone at the gym saw me with no eye-liner on profusely sweating like a beast?  NEWS FLASH, we ladies care WAY too much.

Maybe it comes with age, or gradual self-acceptance, but I honestly don’t give a shit anymore!  Most days, my hair is in a wet bun soaked in deep conditioner on top of my head.  Sexy, I know.

Make-up is amazing, I still love it, but it doesn’t define us.  Yes, it highlights our best features, brings out our eyes, makes our lips pop and so on. But it doesn’t show the world how kind we are, how creative our minds can be, how hard we will fight for the things we love, how incredible of a mother, friend, sister, or wife we may be.

So in the end, make-up is great … but so is your NAKED FACE.

In the past,  I never would have taken photos (especially for my blog) that involved going make-up free.  But since I’ve done it, I’m challenging you to go for it too.

Share your make-up free face using the hashtag #NAKEDFACE on Insta, Snap, FB, or Twitter.  You’ll be empowering other women everywhere to appreciate their bare side … since a naked face is still a good face after all.

Thank you endlessly for reading & I absolutely can’t wait to see your naked side ;).  Tag me @chickycheers.

Big hugs!
